Position Description

The Department of Administration is seeking an Archivist II for the Nevada State Library, Archives, and Public Records. Reporting to the State Archives Manager, the Archivist II supports broad access to archival materials in all formats, including (but not limited to) photographs, maps, plans, audiovisual recordings, and documents (both paper and electronic). Primary duties include appraising, arranging, describing, and conserving archival records with the goal of making them discoverable online and available for use. The incumbent may perform the full range of duties described in the state archives series concept, including research, reference, outreach, and supervising support staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: contributing to the development and execution of strategic plans and initiative; collecting and assessing data related to archival processes and services; appraising, processing, and preserving State records to ensure they are discoverable online and available for ongoing use; digitizing, uploading, and describing archival materials to facilitate public access; conducting research to answer reference requests and inquiries from public users and state employees; representing the agency at professional meetings and serving on professional working groups or steering committees; supervising support staff as needed, including temporary contract staff; and fostering a safe, professional, respectful environment for employees of diverse backgrounds and identities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in archives management, library science, history, information management or closely related field and one year of professional archival experience which included one or more of the following: appraisal, disposition, rights management, accessioning, arrangement/processing, description, preservation, conservation of archival materials, outreach and/or reference services; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in archives management, library science, history, information management or closely related field and two years of professional experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Archivist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

  • The exam will consist of an application and resume evaluation. It is essential that applications/resumes include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.


Informational Notes

  • Certification as an Archivist by the Academy of Certified Archivists is qualifying for Archivist I and II levels.
