Position Description

The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) – Autism Treatment Assistant Program (ATAP), Desert Regional Center (DRC), Nevada Early Intervention Services (NEIS), Rural Regional Services (RRC) and Sierra Regional Center (SRC) are recruiting for multiple Health/Human Services Professional Trainees positions statewide which may underfill positions within the Developmental Specialist series.  Progression to the next level in the series may occur after meeting the minimum qualification, satisfactory performance, and with endorsement of the appointing authority.

 

Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.

 

Employees in this class receive on-the-job training designed to prepare individuals to do the entry-level work in a particular class. On the job training may be supplemented by formal or informal classroom courses and/or workshops.  Duties will involve assignments of entry-level professional work that is closely monitored by a journey-level professional or supervisor. Duties may include performing technical and/or paraprofessional work in order to build a foundation of theoretical and/or experiential knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, early childhood development, psychology, public health, special education, nursing, or other discipline directly related to the field in which the applicant is to be trained; OR two years of journey-level technical or paraprofessional experience in the field in which the applicant is to be trained (NOTE: some jobs strictly require a Bachelor’s degree). 

 

This position requires a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field. 

Special Requirements

  • Some series that may utilize the Health/Human Services Professional Trainee class strictly require at least a Bachelor’s degree to qualify.
  • For those series, only applicants who possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree may be considered qualified for this class.
  • A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
  • Travel of up to 50% of the time is required.
  • Incumbents must possess or obtain an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education issued by the Nevada Department of Education or a comparable certification issued by the Nevada Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C office within three years of appointment to this series or a comparable certification. (This license requirement applies only to those positions directly involved with children from birth to eight years of age with developmental delays.)
  • A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting may be required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
  • Applicants must meet federal guidelines for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional designation at the time of appointment.
