Position Description

Insurance Examiners perform professional work in verification and analysis of the financial condition/solvency and market conduct examination of providers of insurance and related products in the State. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

 

This position reports to the Chief of Market Regulation. The primary duties of this position are to: perform market conduct analysis by collecting and analyzing data on all domestic insurance companies and, as appropriate and/or required, foreign insurance companies that are authorized to do business in the State of Nevada in order to proactively identify general market disruptions early and to eliminate or limit harm to consumers, policyholders and/or claimants; perform specialized analysis of insurance companies by reviewing various factors including, but not limited to: complaint trends, NAIC databases (including RIRS, CDS, MATS), Financial trends, Rates and forms filings (Product Review Bureau), Pending and completed fraud investigations, Other states’ market conduct examinations, Underwriting guidelines, Regulatory alerts & legal actions, and Claim files. 

 

The incumbent will research, review and implements analytical tools to meet NAIC standards; participate in multi-state efforts to gather information for collaborative actions; and participate in NAIC work groups as required; plan, participate in and oversee market conduct examinations; prepare an overall examination plan and design specific procedures and tests to be accomplished in order to achieve examination objectives; prepare written workpapers to illustrate and document work accomplished and demonstrate achievement of the audit objectives; compile findings and conclusions stating condition criteria, cause, effect and recommendations for improvement; and monitor insurance industry trends, analyze the impacts those trends will have on consumers and the insurance marketplace, and coordinate the necessary follow-up.Other project assigned by the supervisor related to or in connection with the primary duties. 

 

This position is also required to obtain IRES and NAIC designations as directed by supervisor. 

 

We are looking for a someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated with experience in researching, analyzing, and making determinations regarding statutory compliance and market conduct activities; or underwriting, rating plans, rate structures and insurance contracts adopted by insurance companies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration, finance or related field, and three years of professional experience in accounting or auditing; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
