Position Description

Under general supervision of a Prison Industries Supervisor, oversee the operation of a correctional institution dairy, producing and processing milk and milk products for institutional use and sale; manage a dairy herd, including breeding, feeding and caring for at least 120 head; instruct inmates in the care of dairy cattle and milk processing. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

The Nevada Department of Corrections has a vacancy for a Prison Farm Supervisor at Northern Nevada Correctional Center (NNCC), in Carson City, Nevada. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining cropland on the prison ranch including irrigation, planting, pest control, as well as harvesting and maintenance on equipment. This position also assists with livestock-related tasks as well. Must be able to operate equipment and be able to train inmate labor on farm-related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of general farm experience, one year of which was supervising a crew of farm laborers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to operate and repair farm tools and equipment
Working knowledge of modern farming principles, methods and techniques relative to field crop production.
Working knowledge of the care and feeding of dairy livestock.
