Position Description

 

Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.

This Public Service Intern will work for the Enterprise Information Technology Services Division and receive training and complete a variety of assignments directly relating to the applicant's major course of study, which may include public administration, business, management, communications, or marketing (or similar program of study). Work assignments and responsibilities will vary as the intern progresses through his or her degree program and may include duties such as assisting with communication and strategic planning; drafting and revising policy; preparing presentations and documents; overhauling website content; creating and managing social media campaigns; planning meetings and preparing agendas; research, data entry, and analysis; and other related duties as assigned that enchance his or her academic training.

This position is located in Carson City. Hours are somewhat flexible to accommodate the student's schedule and is approved for part-time telework after three months of employment. Additional hours during summer and semester breaks are available.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university.

  • The exam will consist of an application and resume evaluation. It is essential that applications/resumes include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

 

Informational Notes

  • Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation. 
  • Employment in this class will not lead to permanent status in State service.
