Position Description

Seasonal Firefighters assist in wildland and structural fire suppression, fire prevention and education, medical and hazardous materials emergencies, pre-suppression, hazardous fuels management, wildland fire aviation, equipment, and facility maintenance, and forestry and fire law enforcement activities.  Under close supervision, positions allocated to this class serve as crewmembers on an engine crew and receive training in performing all or part of the duties outlined in the series concept.

The Nevada Division of Forestry Camp Program provides multiple NWCG type 2 wildland fire/ fuels hand crews statewide. As a member of a fire/ fuel crew it is essentially a firefighter on a fire crew whose day-to-day job entails fuels reduction work. This kind of work typically involves thinning excess vegetation and piling the thinned material reducing the risk or threat of a wildfire. Fuels crew members also prepare landscapes for prescribed fire by constructing fire containment lines and build burn piles. When wildfires occur, fuels crews are used as a local initial attack firefighting hand crew. As a Seasonal Firefighter, you are responsible for safe and effective fire response and suppression. You will be required to work effectively with all members of the program to maintain a high-functioning team environment. We encourage career growth in leadership, self-motivation, fire behavior knowledge and Nevada’s natural resources. When not committed to emergency incidents, Seasonal Firefighters will gain knowledge and skills relating to natural resource management, through training, hazard fuel reduction, Fireline rehabilitation and landscape restoration. We’re looking for motivated, team player with an appetite for crew comradery and adventure!

Selected applicants are required to pass a work capacity test which consists of a three (3) mile walk, carrying forty-five (45) pounds in less than forty-five (45) minutes.
