Position Description

Aging and Disability Services (ADSD) is seeking to fill current and future vacancies for Part Time Speech Pathologist II with Nevada Early Intervention Services (NEIS). The Speech and Language Pathologist administers eligibility speech and language evaluations and provides child/family centered speech and language and communication services in children's homes, childcare facilities, playgroups, and other community settings for children with disabilities and developmental delays who are under the age of three residing in Carson City and the surrounding rural area.  Speech and language intervention is a required service in accordance with the federal regulations of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and are provided on the child's Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Under general direction, Speech Pathologists provide specialized therapeutic services involving the measurement, testing, identification, diagnosis, prediction, treatment, case management, counseling, coaching and supporting of individuals with communication needs and disorders; deficiencies in sensory, perceptual, motor, cognitive and social skills necessary for communication; and sensorimotor dysfunctions of the mouth, pharynx and larynx.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must possess a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association including completion of the Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).

Special Requirements

  • A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
  • A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
  • Some positions require licensure as a speech pathologist by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech Pathology at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
