Position Description

The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Special Education Teacher at our Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) Facility in Elko. A special education teacher assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences and supervision of assigned students in a supportive and positive classroom climate that develops in each child the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the content standards, following the approved curricula and directives of the school. In addition, teachers will strive to meet the highly effective criteria for the preparation of lesson plans, the use of data to drive instruction, the delivering of quality instruction, addressing the needs of diverse learners through differentiation, classroom environment, leadership, and professionalism. Achieving academic excellence requires that the teacher work collaboratively with other members of the school staff and teacher colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and completion of the requirements of the Nevada State Board of Education for a teacher's secondary license.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Nevada teacher's secondary license with an endorsement in the relevant field of teaching is required at the time of appointment.
  • A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
  • A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
