Position Description

 

This position is located in Elko. Supervises technical engineering employees and performs engineering functions requiring analysis of diverse data and exercises judgment impacting daily operations including policy and procedure implementation.  Familiar with the requirements of the NDOT Standard Specifications, Construction Manual, Survey Manual, AWP Documentation Manual and AWP User Guide. Has the ability to correctly interpret Contract Plans and Special Provisions to ensure that project stakeout accurately reflects the contract plan requirements. Significant knowledge of Trimble Business Center in entering all horizontal and vertical alignment data from the Contract Plans to accurately produce alignments, surface models, corridors, templates, and reports. Download all pertinent information into the data collector for use in the field to accurately collect survey information and for construction stakeout of all horizontal and vertical alignment as represented in the Contract Plans and in accordance with the requirements of the NDOT Construction and Survey Manuals. Equipment in use is properly maintained and protected from damage due to abuse or neglect; any damage is promptly reported to the Resident Engineer (RE). Efficiently supervise and instruct persons assisting the Survey Crew who perform the duties of instrument man, rod man, stake writer/pounder, and other activities. Coordinates with crew members to provide project stakeout in a timely and efficient manner. All stakeouts are completed in a timely manner without delay to the contractor. Attend various training as it pertains to Construction Surveying provided by the Construction Office or District Office. Familiar with the requirements of the NDOT Standard Specifications, Construction Manual, AWP Documentation Manual and AWP User Guide, and can correctly interpret contract plans, special provisions and project stakeout. Daily activities are recorded accurately and completely on the appropriate NDOT report forms; reports are submitted daily to the RE. Performs specialized technical engineering work of an advanced nature, while functioning with minimal to no supervision; uses considerable judgment in making independent decisions. Calculations are made as required to verify or adjust contract bid item quantities and to ensure that plan features are being constructed to the proper lines and grades; calculations are checked for accuracy and entered in the appropriate DWR’s or inspector calculation sheets in accordance with the requirements of the NDOT AWP Documentation Manual; accurate field measurements are obtained for items required to be paid on this basis in accordance with the NDOT Standard Specifications.

Under general supervision, incumbents supervise technical engineering employees and perform engineering functions requiring analysis of diverse data and the exercise of judgement impacting daily operations and policy and procedure implementation. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and four years of subprofessional engineering experience; OR four years of experience at the Engineering Technician II level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
