Position Description

Foresters perform professional duties in forestry, natural resource management and conservation, fire prevention and suppression, and related areas. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position will be stationed at one of three Nevada Division of Forestry Conservation Camps: Carlin, Ely or Wells.

The Division of Forestry's mission is to provide professional natural resource and wildland fire management services to enhance, conserve and protect forest, rangeland and watershed values, endangered plants and other native flora. Under the supervision of the Northern Region Resource Management Officer, the position is responsible for implementing the natural resource program in the Nevada Division of Forestry's Northern Region (Elko, White Pine, Lander and Eureka counties). This position will, through collaboration and cooperative efforts, provide technical assistance to private landowners and state, tribal, and local governments, through natural resource program areas including but not limited to fuels management, biomass utilization, post-fire rehabilitation and restoration, urban and community forestry, rangeland watershed and forest stewardship, protected plant management, and restoration plant materials. This position will make landowner contacts, create project plans, conduct archaeological surveys and threatened and endangered species clearances, obtain all necessary landowner waivers and permits/variances, coordinate crews for project work, and monitor crews and/or contractors for project compliance.

Position Details (cont.)

Project management activities will require regular travel throughout the region, the ability to work independently, and may involve work in arduous terrain and inclement weather. This position will also provide technical training on currently accepted natural resource management techniques to general public, professional, and internal staff audiences. The position is state general funded.
