Position Description

The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for multiple positions part time for Health/Human Services Professional Trainees in Ely, Nevada. This recruitment will be used to underfill positions within the Developmental Specialist series. Progression to the next level in the series may occur after meeting the minimum qualification, satisfactory performance, and with endorsement of the appointing authority. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the Rural Regional Center Unit (RRC), Autism Treatment and Assistance Program (ATAP), and Nevada Early Intervention Services Unit (NEIS).

 

Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders. Employees in this class receive on-the-job training designed to prepare individuals to do the entry-level work in a particular class. On the job training may be supplemented by formal or informal classroom courses and/or workshops.  Duties will involve assignments of entry-level professional work that is closely monitored by a journey-level professional or supervisor. Duties may include performing technical and/or paraprofessional work in order to build a foundation of theoretical and/or experiential knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, early childhood development, psychology, public health, special education, nursing, or other discipline directly related to the field in which the applicant is to be trained; OR two years of journey-level technical or paraprofessional experience in the field in which the applicant is to be trained (NOTE: some jobs strictly require a Bachelor’s degree). 
  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or a closely related.

  • The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

Special Requirements

  • Some series that may utilize the Health/Human Services Professional Trainee class strictly require at least a Bachelor’s degree to qualify.
  • For those series, only applicants who possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree may be considered qualified for this class.
