Position Description

Under general supervision of a higher level nurse, Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.

The Division of Public and Behavioral Health Rural Clinics (RC) is recruiting for a full-time Psychiatric Nurse 2 in Fallon, NV. Rural Clinics provides an array of outpatient behavioral health services for both adults and children in 16 clinics in 12 counties across Rural Nevada.  Services are generally provided Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Services assist individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and recovery.  Any position that requires licensure to provide clinical services must be maintained, without lapses and be in good standing with subsequent boards.  This position provides direct psychiatric nursing services for consumers, including assessments and therapeutic interventions; organizes and oversees medication services including tele-medication services for prescribers; client and family education on medications and health-related issues; monitors effectiveness of treatment and side effects; provides consultation and education to consumers, the community, and other service providers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Informational Notes

  • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing and one year of experience.
  • Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.

  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
