Position Description

Electronic Technician's perform work requiring the application of electronic principles and practices involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair, programming and modification of a variety of electronic and computerized equipment.  This position is located at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, NV.

Under general supervision and direction of the Electronic Technician III, this position responds to repair orders; diagnoses problems utilizing appropriate tools and test equipment; determines parts and material needs for repairs and projects; obtains quotes and initiates orders and contract request as needed.  This position troubleshoots and repairs microprocessor-based door control systems, CCTV, intercom, fire alarm and other miscellaneous electronic systems.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in electronics or closely related field from an accredited college or technical school and two years of experience performing electronic technician work involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical and computerized equipment; OR two years of experience as an Electronics Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • The exam will consist of an application and resume evaluation. It is essential that applications/resumes include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Special Requirements

  • A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
  • This position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds overhead.
  • This position requires passing a non-custody correctional training course.
