Position Description
This is position is located at High Desert State Prison (HDSP), in Indian Springs, NV.
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act. This position requires a high level of independency. Candidate must also be reliable, have excellent communication skills and able to apply their critical thinking, assessment, intervention and evaluation skills to be able to make quick but accurate medical decisions. RN must be able to work under pressure, be able to adjust to change and be able to work well as a part of a health care team.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. Job duties include: collecting and documenting data about Mental Health Unit patients per protocol, and chart using DAP format, help client modify or eliminate those that are dysfunctional, and employ principles of: 1) communication 2) interviewing techniques 3)problem solving 4) crisis intervention.

Minimum Qualifications

"Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above."
