Position Description

 

Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.

Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

This position is located at Southern Desert Correctional Center (SDCC), in Indian Springs, Nevada.

The Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) 3 position provides direct supervision to the following programs:  SDCC/TRUST and TLVCC/RISE. Additionally, provide clinical services monthly to each of the listed programs, as well as audit the programs to ensure that we are following EBP, and fidelity to the curricula that we utilize; provide oversight of the therapeutic community activities; work with each institution regarding safety and security matters; and provide advocacy and education regarding programming.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors and two years of experience as a journey level Substance Abuse Counselor which must have included leading treatment teams, conducting clinical counseling, and implementing an established substance abuse program; OR Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors and two years of experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor II in Nevada State service; OR Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC) by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors and five years as a journey level Substance Abuse Counselor as described above; OR CADC by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors and five years of experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor II in Nevada State service.

  • Licensure or provisional licensure by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Independent Social Worker, or Associate in Social Work is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of employment.
