Position Description

The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for multiple positions for Developmental Support Technician 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the Desert Regional Center (DRC).  

 

Under the direction of a Developmental Support Technician IV, the incumbent performs in a trainee capacity to acquire the knowlege, skills and ability required in this occupation.  The successful incumbent will underfill the Developmental Support Technician 3 position and will advance to the next level in the series upon recommendation of the Appointing Authority, meeting the minimum qualifications and required coursework, and satisfactory performance.  The incumbent's work is closely reviewed and monitored, and extensive on-the-job training is provided to ensure standards of care are met.  The incumbent must obtain and maintain tehnician certification, CPR and a valid Nevada Driver's License.  The incumbent will provide direct care to dually diagnosed individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and related conditions such as Autism, Seizure Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, etc., in a 24-hour residental facility.  Experience and passion working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact and which may have included providing care or guidance for children, elders or others; volunteer work in providing respite to caregivers; or leading youth groups; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements

  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • Incumbents are required to obtain and maintain certification as a mental health technician per NRS 433.279 as a condition of continuing employment.
  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
  • Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
  • A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant at the cost of the applicant.
