Position Description

 

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

 

This position is located with the Environmental Division in Las Vegas. Incumbent will be responsible for conducting Desert Tortoise fence inspections; performing biological field studies, data reviews, construction monitoring and research; and attends and participates in project related meetings, field reviews, plan and specification reviews, public meetings, and other functions to provide specific input for project development. The incumbent will secure state and federal permits in conformance with the Endangered Species Act.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and 18 months of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and three and a half years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR 18 months of experience as an Environmental Scientist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

  • Experience with the Mojave or Sonoran Desert tortoise is required. 

  • Experience preparing biological assessments and reports is required. 

  • Experience working with noxious weed identification and management is required. 

  • Experience working with other federal or state threatened, endangered and special status species is required.
