Position Description

Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for Mental Health Counselor II in the Las Vegas, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur at the Desert Regional Center - Intermediate Care Facility (DRC-ICF). This position REQUIRES working weekends and possibly swing shift.

 

The Incumbent will provide individual, group, and family therapy; write concise, logical and clear reports regarding client status and treatment as well as comprehensive evaluations and recommendations; assess and utilize community resources to establish rapport and appropriate clinical relationships with individuals served, their families and care providers; develop and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with coworkers, medical and health professionals, social service agency representatives and others; prepare documentation for charts of individuals served; assess, develop and implement treatment plans and goals; administer standardized assessments appropriate for level of training; and evaluate services provided to individuals. Good oral communication skills. Support team dynamics. Knowledge of licensing regulations for various types of supported living and jobs and day training programs. Theories and principles of behavioral assessment and intervention. 

 

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

 

Based on the Governor’s mandate, effective 8/15/21, some positions in ADSD require employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. This position has been identified as a position requiring vaccination.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above.

Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
