Position Description

The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Nurse 1 to actively participate on a multidisciplinary team providing nursing care for children at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) located in Las Vegas, Nevada.  This recruitment may be used to underfill a Psychiatric Nurse 2.  Progression to the next level in the series may occur after meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the endorsement of the appointing authority.

 

DWTC is a 20-bed psychiatric hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that provides mental health treatment for children ages 12 to 17.  Work responsibilities include: providing professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals; planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care delivered to adolescent clients; identifying patient mental and physical health care needs and making comprehensive clinical evaluations; providing input and recommendations regarding nursing care and services; initiating and carrying out therapeutic, educational, social, and physical care activities; administering medications as prescribed by physicians and monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reactions; monitoring patients for safety; documenting client observations and the effectiveness of planned program activities; and ensuring DWTC maintains a safe, healthy, and therapeutic environment for our patients; and ensuring nursing care objectives are met in accordance with the nursing association professional standards of practice and consistent with DWTC policy.

DWTC operates seven days per week, 24 hours per day with three shifts.  A variety of full-time work schedules are available.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse; OR an Interim Permit issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.

∗ Per NRS 632.305, the Nevada State Board of Nursing may, after verifying that an applicant meets all licensure requirements, issue an Interim Permit authorizing the applicant (for a Nurse I position) to practice nursing until the results of their examination for licensure are received. The Interim Permit is for a period not to exceed 90 days and is immediately revoked if a candidate fails the examination. Any person working under the authority of an Interim Permit may not represent themselves as a licensed registered nurse. Passing the licensure examination is a requirement for continuing employment in the Nurse I class.

∗ Out of state applicants must have a temporary license issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment.

Special Requirements
