Position Description

The Department of Business & Industry, Nevada Taxicab Authority is currently looking to fill a vacant Taxicab Vehicle Inspector position.  Taxicab Vehicle Inspectors inspect taxicabs (Clark County only) to ensure the safety of the riding public pursuant to NRS 706.885 through and including NRS 706.8839; and NAC 706.450 through NAC 706.504.  Vehicle inspectors are responsible for inspecting taxicabs for compliance in the following areas: mechanical and emission control standards, rate displays, taximeter accuracy, radio equipment, appearance, and other elements as required. Taxicab Inspectors maintain records of all taxicabs in service including company, vehicle identification number, out-of-service periods, accidents, license plate numbers, taximeter numbers, meter seal numbers, and dates of all inspections and notices issued and cleared; prepare reports concerning suspected or repeated company violations involvingvehicles and equipment.  Works closely with the Taxicab Authority Compliance Enforcement Unit in addressing non-compliance issues and/or activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college, university, or trade school in automotive technology and one Automotive Service Excellence Certificate in Automobile & Light Truck ( A Series) issued by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of journey level experience in general automotive repair and one Automotive Service Excellence Certificate in Automotive & Light Truck ( A Series) issued by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence; Or an apprenticeship resulting in the attainment of journey-level status in general automotive repair; Or and equivalent combination of education, training and journey-level general automotive experience as described above.

  • The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

 

Special Requirements

  • A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
  • Persons offered employment in this series must submit to a pre-employment background check including criminal history and finger printing.
  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
