Position Description

 

Conservation Aids assist professional staff in a variety of projects involving the conservation and preservation of the State's natural resources.

 

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. 

 

These 3-month seasonal positions are responsible for maintaining, in a safe and aesthetically pleasing manner, all property, equipment, structures and other public use facilities on various WMAs across the State. The employee must be familiar with wetland management strategies, the principles of plant succession and be able to identify the most common and important plant species found on the WMAs.  The person in this position will also monitor the satisfaction level of the users of the area and respond in a manner that will strive to address those interests while also protecting the interests of the Nevada Department of Wildlife and other resource management agencies. The positions will be recruited at all levels - Conservation Aid 1, Conservation Aid 2, and Conservation Aid 3.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school and one year of experience in resource conservation projects or wildlife management projects such as assisting with creel census, surveys, identifying fish and wildlife species, vegetation management or similar work; OR six months of experience as a Conservation Aid II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
