Position Description

Under general direction, Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program research, planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.

This position is responsible for management, monitoring, coordination and reporting of annual Federal Aid grants including Section 6 (ESA) and traditional State Wildlife Grants (aquatic) from US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and other grants and agreements funding native aquatic species projects with Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Reclamation, US FWS, and other entities.  Incumbent will coordinate grant processes with US FWS Federal Aid and Ecological Services offices and complete ESA and NEPA compliance reports necessary to ensure grants and agreements comply with applicable Federal requirements and regulations. Position will be responsible to provide technical assistance and direction for NDOW native species fisheries programs statewide including planning and implementation associated with the Nevada Wildlife Action Plan. Another responsibility includes coordinating NDOW native aquatic species program activities with internal staff and external entities including Federal, State and local government agencies to ensure effective implementation of those programs, including participation on species recovery teams, interagency work groups and presentations to the public and agency cooperators. Incumbent will provide administrative functions for native aquatic species programs and projects including the development and monitoring of work programs and budgets, development and submission of grant narratives, development and monitoring of contracts for native aquatic species program projects, monitoring of project(s) performance and effectiveness, and reporting on grant activities and project findings to meet internal and funding agency requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations related to wildlife management; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
